Savouring Life! Contemplation notes on mindfulness, aging and savouring life

What does savouring life mean to you?

This summer was the first time that I had the opportunity to slow down, after 24 years of teaching yoga and mindfulness non-stop. I had a break with all the group classes online or in person and just continued with a few private classes through the summer. This enabled me to focus more on myself. Although teaching is my passion, creating this time for my self care, helped me to cultivate more self awareness, embrace all the changes going on with aging and contemplate on my priorities.  During this time, which was also very rich with mindfulness, ‘savouring life’ to the maximum felt so good. Especially as this was the summer that I turned 50!

Throughout the summer, my sadhana (own spiritual practice), self care and movement routine mainly included early morning mindfulness practice, 30 minute walk, feet-up exercise, Mindful Energy Flow and a gentle yoga routine. Taking supplements, staying away from toxic people and limited social media was also part of my wellness rituals.

I strive for harmony, balance and peace in my life, yet, naturally, not everyday I can achieve it. Life is never all about riding on pink clouds. My outlet during tough times has been connecting with nature and using creative expression as a mindfulness practice. Mindfulness in action helps me to accept all parts of my life with gratitude and savour the positive moments. Travelling is a big opportunity for me to savour life, so is enjoying good food, nature, sunsets, music, sea, sun and quality time with my family and friends. I realise that focusing on the present moment and savouring life more, helps to lift off the pressure on myself. It also gives the opportunity to connect with myself in a more profound way and help to tap into my true potential.

Aging definitely brings deeper wisdom. Becoming more observant, insightful and conscious about my time and energy, and more self-compassion are the best outcomes of aging for me. And so my next 50 years (hopefully!) lay in front of me. Finding the drive and motivation within me to continue with what I have been building up until this point. My life, family, practicing and teaching yoga & mindfulness, my relationships, healthy and conscious holistic living… Feeling empowered to live my life to the fullest and savouring life till the last drop is my goal now.

New age, new era, new beginnings. With an open heart, I will be awaiting what comes next…

Om Shanti,

Divya
