RITUALS FOR HOLISTIC WELLNESS and POSITIVE HEALTH

‘’True wellness means feeling calm, feeling energised and having the tools to return to a state of calm and energy when you have lost this state’’

Let’s be honest with ourselves. We need to set intentions, goals for our health and well-being. We need to have plans to achieve a wholesome health and a long- lasting holistic wellness. Otherwise, we are just hanging in there, battling with what life throws at us in a roller-coaster of ups and downs. Without an effective wellness vision, we are trying to ride the waves of our unpredictable lives, without any defence mechanisms to cope with stress, anxiety, depression and other modern ailments of our day. Our internal reserves are limited and vulnerable, and if we do not keep feeding, nourishing, nurturing our souls, bodies, emotions and minds, it becomes harder to live a balanced, energised, healthy and holistic life. Self-care should be non-negotiable and a priority in our lives if we want to protect our inner strength and maintain our balance, attain wholesome wellbeing and improve our holistic wellness.

Rituals, are non-negotiable routines that help us create good habits & healthy practices. Habits or routines sound boring, whereas rituals are important to set the tone of the day, to have a committed, self-disciplined, meaningful, purposeful and self-empowered mindset in life. Even the smallest ritual might be beneficial to create a powerful effect on your mind and life.

Here are some examples of my own non-negotiable morning and evening rituals that I practice each and every day:

Morning Ritual:

  • Waking up early each morning- around 6.45 A.M.

  • Dinacharya: applying some daily Ayurvedic routines such as tongue scraping, eye washing, drinking water..

  • Making my bed and dressing up.

  • Drinking a glass of warm water with lemon juice before breakfast

  • Feeding my dog.

  • Enjoying a cup of black French pressed coffee.

  • Having breakfast at around 7.30 A.M- consisting of one healthy carb, one protein, one healthy fat.

  • Having a chat with my daughter and kissing her goodbye for school.

  • Checking social media, news and my emails.

  • Planning my day ahead and goals to achieve that day.

  • Short meditation and/or quiet time

  • Taking 3 daily supplements: Vitamin C, Vitamin B-Complex and Magnesium, with a glass of water.

  • Brushing my teeth.

  • Taking my dog out for a 20-minute walk while listening to the sounds of nature or music.

  • Practicing Yoga or teaching Yoga

Evening Ritual:

  • Planning breakfast and meals for the next day

  • Brushing teeth, wearing my pyjamas

  • Drinking one glass of water-with my daily evening supplements

  • Checking my calendar and planning & setting goals for the next day

  • Preparing what I will be wearing for the next day

  • Writing down 3 gratitude sentences before I go to sleep

  • Going to bed early-around 10 P.M.

These rituals are suggestions from my daily life, I encourage you to create your own morning and evening rituals. Have a healthy, happy and holistic life!
